La balsa de la medusa
2021
Inspired by Géricault’s iconic painting, La balsa de la medusa takes the image of a collective shipwreck to build a new sonic imaginary. A reflection of a world adrift, led by inept captains, where the night stands for both the dreamlike and the dark.
The album invites a journey through a web of artistic and literary references, weaving together original compositions with adaptations of pieces such as Falla’s Fantasía Bética or a Nocturne by Chopin infused with verses by Lorca, our most frequently evoked poet. We also revisit his poem La Aurora, which gives the group its name and now comes to life with our own music.
Musically, the record delves deeper into the blend that defines our identity: flamenco, jazz, Spanish classical music, Latin rhythms, Carnatic music, rock and improvisation merge into a singular voice. Our aim is not a hybrid of recognizable styles, but a new and coherent musical DNA.
The repertoire expands with texts by Pablo Neruda, José Martí, Homer, Dante, and Cavafy, in a gesture of memory, poetry and rebellion that bridges tradition and vanguard, emotion and thought.
